Offered in collaboration with the Ontario Universities’ Council on eLearning (OUCEL) and Educational Technology Committee (ETC), COED’s next Lunch ‘n Learn is scheduled for March 31st, 12:00-1:00pm and facilitated through the Collaborate UE web conferencing tool.
In 2014 as eCampus Ontario was being considered, the Council of Ontario Universities commissioned several research projects, one of which was a report outlining quality standards for the delivery of high-quality online courses. This project was undertaken jointly by Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Guelph and McMaster University. Data from 40 available quality standards documents was collected from institutions in Ontario, Canada, the U.S. and elsewhere internationally.
One result of the project was that customized rubrics for the development and delivery of online courses were developed. The research projects authors (Sandy Hughes [WLU], Natalie Giesbrecht [U of G] & Kris Knorr [McMaster]) will join us for this Lunch ‘n Learn to briefly outline the project, provide a focus on the results obtained concerning quality standards to be considered for online learning and how this information might be helpful for instructional designers and other online learning practitioners.
Their presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
We invite you to participate by registering through the link above. Registration will close on Monday, March 28th. Details about how to connect will be provided to those who register.
In January, we asked for COED members to strike a membership working group to address questions related to possible changes to COED’s membership structure. Members can read the working group’s original terms of reference where the executive asked the following questions:
- Should COED charge a membership fee?
- How do we, if at all, value inclusiveness while encouraging membership engagement?
- Who should be charged a membership fee? (i.e. individuals, institutions, other?)
- If a fee were charged, what would be an equitable fee?
COED members Beata Pawlowska, Joe Lipsett and Pierre Boulos agreed to form this working group. We have received their final report which is now accessible in the General Membership Group. Thanks again to Pierre, Joe & Beata for their work on this report. The executive have taken the recommendations into consideration and will be posting a response.
Mark Friday, November 13th on your calendar: this is the date for COED’s 2015 Annual General Meeting. Hosted at Niagara College, the AGM will be preceded by working group meetings on November 12th.
Look for more details to follow.
